Some of you may have noticed I haven’t published over the last month. I apologize, but I’ve been under the weather. I’ve not been inactive, however.
I contemplated what would be meaningful to write on the October 7 anniversary of the Hamas massacre of 1,200 innocent men, women and children.
And, of course, there were the other atrocities committed that dark day by Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other terrorists’ groups -- including the mass raping and murdering of women and children as well as the taking of hundreds of civilian hostages, many of whom today hang on in dark, suffocating tunnels.
After some serious reflection, I decided simply to compile a list describing the violent Arab, Palestinian and Islamic Jihadi attacks on innocent, unarmed civilians since 1948 when the state of Israel was born.
As this long, long, long list shows below, October 7 was not an anomaly. It was part of a major, cowardly strategy used by Palestinian and Islamic Jihadi radicals to terrorize and instill fear in a civilian populace.
I use the word cowardice because there is no honor or courage in killing, raping and maiming innocent, unarmed people. It is pure cowardice and their pattern of deploying these unspeakable weapons of pure terror exposes the significant weakness of the Palestinian cause.
Further, I have decided only to list those incidents that involved Palestinian or Arab attacks on unarmed and clearly innocent civilians. I do not list any Palestinian attacks on soldiers, security personnel, diplomats or military bases. Those attacks are on people who have security, are armed, and can fight back.
No. I decided only to list those attacks that were committed against innocent, unarmed civilians who have no way to defend themselves against guns, bombs or other weapons.
Four Geneva Conventions and associated Protocols have tried to make it a war crime to intentionally kill or torture civilians, take civilians hostage, intentionally destroy civilian property, use sexual violence as an act of war, as well as mass killings. But since Hamas and Hezbollah have not accepted any of these international laws of civil behavior, they believe they can disregard them, which they have.
I note that the Simon Wiesenthal Center has advocated classifying suicide bombings against civilians as crimes against humanity, a position apparently adopted by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch in 2002.
I decided to limit the list to those attacks in which there are multiple casualties and especially where children are the victims.
This list shows that the Palestinian, Arab, and Islamic Jihadi radical organizations – of whom there are many currently operating throughout the Middle East, North Africa and Central Africa – regularly use terror, the killing of innocents, rape and hostage-taking as primary weapons of war. It’s revolting.
I relied on a number of sources to create this large and depressing list: the amazing database of the Jewish Virtual Library, Wikipedia, among others. Through these sources, I have tried to piece together a chronology that is accurate.
I have bolded some of those events that I concluded were particularly dreadful or historically important. The number of the massacres against Israeli and Jewish civilians by Palestinian terrorists and their allies still is overwhelming.
In many instances, you will see that the public was so appalled by a specific terrorist attack that the incident was publicly referred to as a “massacre.” There are countless numbers of these massacres you will see below such as the Avivim school bus massacre, the Lod Airport massacre, the Kiryat Shmona massacre and, of course, the Munich massacre where Israeli Olympic athletes were taken hostage, then murdered by the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s Black September.
This project was a revelation to me as well as depressing.
This list is not geographically limited to Israel. It includes hijackings from Europe, bombings in Argentina and terrorist attacks outside of Israel in which the tactic is to terrorize Jews and Israelis.
May we understand that October 7 was not a rare occurrence. Terrorism is the main weapon used in the world of Islamic Jihadi revolution.
Terrorism against innocent civilians has become the prime strategy for Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, Syria, the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS and Iran.
The long history of terrorism against innocents is outlined below. But the terrorism of October 7 especially stands out for its depravity, immorality and sheer evil.
Your responses and reflections are most appreciated.
